Kevin Magnussen thinks it is important to keep his options open as he waits on Renault to confirm its line-up for 2017.
Magnussen and Jolyon Palmer are yet to be confirmed for another season at the Enstone team, which has struggled since returning to the grid as a manufacturer this season. The team has already turned its focus to 2017 in a hope to capitalise on the big regulation changes set for next season.
Magnussen says he is talking to other teams but only as a matter of keeping his options open until a final decision is made.
"I think that you know people around the paddock, I'm not only talking with the Renault people, I know a lot of people so you always talk so you know what's going on, keep your doors open and at the moment I'm not going to need it," he said.
Despite his cautious approach, Magnussen wants to remain at Renault and thinks he just needs to be patient while he waits for a decision to be made.
"I've clearly made it obvious that I want to stay and I consider myself part of the team and part of the future, I haven't seen any signs that I'm not [part of the future] the time will tell but I feel happy and confident so we'll see what happens.
"It doesn't seem like they're in much of a rush, I've been in this situation before and you never really know, all you can do is do you best and enjoy it while it lasts."
