Lance Stroll says he had to get out of his Williams car earlier than planned in FP2 because his feet were "burning like crazy" inside the cockpit.
At the end of the second Friday practice session Stroll's was heard over the radio telling Williams he could not do another lap because he was in too much pain. Though the teenager did not need treatment on his feet Williams is investigating the cause of the issue.
Speaking after FP2 Stroll revealed the overheating had been in the foot-well by the brakes.
"There was some burning in my feet, I don't know if something was wrong," he said. "I was burning like crazy, I need to see what it was but I had to get out of the car because it was just killing me. I just wanted to get out of there."
Williams had wanted Stroll to do another lap in the car after the chequered flag dropped on the session, with race control allowing a spell of time under Virtual Safety Car conditions.
"It was really really painful. I tried to bring it to the end but then when I was told to do another lap for the Virtual Safety Car I said I really cannot do it, sorry. It happens."
After an encouraging opening session, Stroll finished 16th in FP2 while teammate Felipe Massa ended the day in seventh. Stroll admits he was struggling to understand his car in the evening conditions before the burning started on his feet.
"FP1 was really good, getting into it quickly, feeling good with the car, it's just FP2 was the only negative really. Just all session I was really struggling with the car, we need to see if something was wrong that session, it just wasn't great for me. But no worries, it's good to be out there today."
