Hockey India League auction LIVE, Day 3: Salima, Savita and other top players to go under the hammer

After two days Hockey India League's men's auction, the action will shift to the women's auction which will take place on October 15, Tuesday.

This is the first-time ever that Hockey India League will involve women's sides, and it will start off with four teams -- Soorma Hockey Club (Punjab and Haryana), Shrachi Rahr Bengal Tigers (West Bengal), Delhi SG Pipers (New Delhi) and Odisha Warriors (Rourkela).

The women's league was supposed to be a six-team event. Hockey India announced additional teams owned by Resolute Sports and BC Jindal Group, however, they will feature from next season.

The auction will witness over 250 domestic women's players and more than 70 overseas players. All eyes will be on the top Indian internationals like current captain Salima Tete, former captain and star goalkeeper Savita Punia, India's most capped player Vandana Katariya, and quality midfielders Navneet Kaur and Neha Goyal.

Among top foreign players, Charlotte Stapenhorst (Germany), Maria Granatto (Argentina), Rachael Lynch (Australia), and Nike Lorenz (Germany) are likely to attract fierce bidding.

Regarding squad composition, it's the same as men's team. Each side should have 24 players, which will include 16 Indians and 8 foreigners. The 16 Indians must include a minimum of four junior players (age 21 and below). However, the purse for the women's team is Rs 2 crore.
