Former Liverpool forward Florent Sinama Pongolle has agreed a deal with Thailand club Chainat FC.
The 31-year-old will undergo a medical on Monday and will be given the task of helping save Chainat from relegation from the Premier League of Thailand.
The ex-France Under-21 star recently ended a short spell with Dundee United in the Scottish Premier League as he tries to reignite a fading career. He faces a formidable challenge, swapping one relegation battle for another, with the Hornbills stuck in the PLT's bottom three.
Chainat's Facebook page announced that Sinama Pongolle was on his way to Southeast Asia.
Sinama Pongolle was a highly promising youngster at Liverpool after signing for the Reds at the age of 16, though was immediately loaned to his youth club Le Havre for two years. He was capped a record 37 times for the French U21 side but failed to establish himself as a regular starter under Gerard Houllier and then Rafa Benitez at the Anfield club.
Sinama Pongolle contributed to Liverpool's victorious Champions League campaign in 2004-05, scoring in the decisive group game victory over Olympiacos. But the Frenchman was not selected for the squad in the final as Steven Gerrard inspired to his side to their famous comeback over AC Milan.
After leaving Liverpool in 2006, Sinama Pongolle was more successful in two seasons at Recreativo de Huelva in Spain's La Liga, earning him a move to Atletico Madrid for an estimated £8 million. At that time, Atletico boasted two of the finest strikers in the modern game in Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero. It was during his spell in Madrid that Sinama Pongolle made his one and only appearance for France's senior team in a 2008 friendly against Tunisia.
Despite a promising first campaign, Sinama Pongolle fell out of favour and moved to Sporting CP in 2010 before being loaned to Zaragoza and Saint-Etienne. More recently, he has played with FC Rostov in Russia and Chicago Fire in the U.S.
Dundee United took a chance on Sinama Pongolle after a trial at the end of 2015 but he made just four appearances for the Tangerines, who ended the season at the bottom of the SPL.
Having also been relegated while at Zaragoza, Chainat fans will certainly hope that it won't be third time unlucky for Sinama Pongolle.
