Bibi Ramjani becomes first female president of Kelantan in MSL

A challenging two months awaits Bibi Ramjani after she was appointed as the first female president of Kelantan, with the mandate of leading the troubled state side for the next four years until 2021.

The businesswoman is Malaysia's second female club president after Tunku Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah of Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).

She will firstly need to ensure the team remain in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) for the 2018 season after seeing their club license application rejected by the Football Association of Malaysia for failing to comply with the required criteria.

They have until Oct. 31 to submit and get their application approved to compete in the next year's domestic campaign.

The Red Warriors are also in trouble for owing wages to past players and staff, including ex-Australia international Jonathan McKain.

"Give me some time to relive the glory days of Kelantan football," Bibi told reporters in Kelantan after she ousted her closest rival Datuk Muhammad Nasir Hamzah by 32 votes to 16 on Sunday.

"The first target would be to keep Kelantan in the MSL, and I will do my best. I have a team and they will help me. Besides that, I will also work with all parties, including those who lost in the elections."

Tan Sri Annuar Musa had been urged to run for president again, but the Kelantan advisor shot down the rumours last week by saying thay there were better candidates than him.

If Bibi keeps relegation-threatened Kelantan in the league, her next task would be to bring in reliable sponsors for next season.

She had previously promised to engaged three multinational companies as sponsors should she become president, so now the onus will fall on her to carry out her promises.

Kelantan's participation in the 2017 MSL had been in doubt as they struggled to come up with the funds required to compete.

But Annuar used his connections to source RM8 million to cover costs, and the team's blushes were spared.

Before this, Kelantan were sponsored by another businesswoman in Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, but the comestics' tycoon stopped the cash flow last year after failing to see sufficient returns.

Kelantan, only one point above the drop zone, will take on champions JDT in the MSL on Wednesday night.
