As the summer window draws ever closer, the transfer rumours and gossip continue to spread.
Wenger could swoop for Smalling
One reason Manchester United find themselves firmly entrenched in the top-four battle has been the play of Chris Smalling. He has been a terror at the back and has contributed some well-timed goals off set pieces along the way, too.
Apparently his play has been noticed down London way by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. The Mirror is reporting that the Gunners are trying to leverage Smalling's contract situation in his favour and pry the 25-year-old away from Manchester United this summer.
Smalling could leave for free next summer when his contract expires, making Wenger's mooted £12 million offer too sweet for Louis van Gaal to pass up.
Chelsea, Man City monitor Felipe Anderson
Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson is seeing his stock rise after a rousing display versus Fiorentina and a two-goal outing versus Napoli. Manchester City and Chelsea were both said to have scouts in the stands for the latter, according to the London Evening Standard.
Anderson is under contract with the "other" club in Rome until 2020, after adding a two-year extension to his previous deal. Lazio are in the mix for Serie A Champions League spots, but should that change on the stretch run for Anderson & Co., a move could be in the offing.
It's reported that the Lazio brass would be seeking north of £30 million for the Brazilian should they decide to pursue a deal.
Messi leaving Barca "impossible"
Another rumour making the rounds is that Lionel Messi will leave Barcelona, ostensibly due to poor relations with manager Luis Enrique, and could end up at Paris Saint-Germain. However, Messi's teammate, Jeremy Mathieu, has effectively put those rumours to bed.
"It's impossible," said Mathieu, who headed home a Messi assist to give his team an early 1-0 lead in the Clasico. "I can't see Messi at any other club than Barcelona."
Green to Prem doubtful
FC TV's Raphael Honigstein dispelled rumours that U.S. national team player Julian Green would be loaned to a Premier League club any time soon.
Atletico Madrid still "Sim" City
Some of the Alteti faithful may have been getting restless as to whether or not Diego Simeone would re-sign as Los Rojiblancos boss, but the deal is officially done.
The Argentine is now under contract with Atletico Madrid until 2020, a testament to both his past achievements with the club and the management's faith in what he'll do in the future.
