Australia international Carl Valeri is being treated for an inflammatory condition in his brain that is affecting his balance and coordination.
His club, Melbourne Victory, issued a statement on Tuesday saying the 31-year-old Valeri has responded well to treatment but full results of medical tests will not be known for two weeks.
Melbourne Victory club doctor Krishant Naidu said Valeri developed the condition two weeks ago and "had a viral upper-respiratory-tract infection in the week leading up to this."
"Carl has had treatment for the inflammation and has responded with improvement in his balance and coordination," Naidu said.
Valeri has not played since Nov. 28. Valeri, a defensive midfielder who spent the bulk of his career in Italy, has played 52 times for Australia.
