PSG's Choupo-Moting sorry for horror miss, adds: 'mistakes are human'

Paris Saint-Germain forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has apologised for his horror miss during the 2-2 Ligue 1 draw at home to Strasbourg last Sunday.

The Cameroon international opened the scoring but then inexplicably blocked Christopher Nkunku's goal-bound effort at 1-1, provoking a global reaction on social media.

Choupo-Moting, 30, who missed another easy chance during the recent 1-0 league win away at Toulouse, posted a message on Instagram following criticism he received for the gaffe.

"Ups and downs -- that is life!" he said. "I cannot change what happened, but for sure I will try to do better!

"I am sorry for those I disappointed, but mistakes are human -- especially in sports! It is sad to see how negative things are pushed, especially by the medias who are brainwashing peoples' minds.

"I really like our club, PSG, and it was a wonderful feeling to score in front of you supporters -- Paris Ultras Collective (Collectif Ultras Paris). Unfortunately, after that, I made the big mistake, and all was forgotten!"

Choupo-Moting also responded to his critics after receiving abuse on social media for the miss.

"I hope that those haters, who are insulting me, feel better now and find their peace and happiness in their own life!" he wrote. "For those who are always supporting me or just understanding that mistakes can happen, I want to say thank you and big respect -- I will continue to give everything."

Kylian Mbappe, whose reaction to the miss was part of the viral video, came out in support of his teammate on Twitter. Failure to collect three points meant PSG have wait before being officially crown Ligue 1 winners.

"It was a shame about the title tonight, we tried to do what we could," wrote the France international. "Big up to Choupo-Moting, I have missed many more than you this season, we remain a united group and will support you until the end."

PSG can seal their eighth Ligue 1 title with a draw away at second-placed Lille on Sunday.
