Paolo Guerrero is part of Peru's World Cup squad after his drugs ban was temporarily suspended and was cleared to play.
Guerrero is the country's record goalscorer -- and scored two on his return to the national team on Sunday as Peru beat Saudi Arabia 3-0 -- and will captain them in their first World Cup since 1982.
"I'm very happy because my teammates have helped me," Guerrero told America TV. "I'm very grateful for the support and I want to repay that on the pitch with sacrifice and joy. We need to continue focused. No one can pull us out of this level of concentration. We played an important game and we won convincingly. It's important we continue playing like this, with the same union."
His previous appearance for his country was in a World Cup qualifier in Argentina last October, while his previous goal came in a 3-1 international friendly triumph over Jamaica a year ago.
He said he is fighting against the clock to be at his best in Russia, where Peru will appear in a World Cup for the first time in 36 years.
"I hadn't trained for 15 days," Guerrero said. "Now I'm back here and I hope to arrive at 100 percent. I played 70 minutes and it's important for me to get into the rhythm. I spoke to the coach and I told him that I need more minutes."
Watford loan star Andre Carillo and former Schalke and current Lokomotiv Moskow forward Jefferson Farfan will also be part of the team, but Granada's Sergio Pena and Velez Sarsfield's Luis Abram make way from the preliminary squad.
Peru's World Cup campaign kicks off on June 16 vs Denmark, before they play France on June 21 and Australia on June 26.
