Alex Teixeira has said that Shakhtar Donetsk turned down a €32 million offer from Liverpool for his services, while adding that he is desperate for a move to the Premier League club.
Sources have told ESPN FC that the Reds are hoping to sign the Brazilian, who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu insists the Brazilian is worth €50m and the player himself has said Liverpool had a bid someway short of that valuation turned down.
"The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected, I don't know why," Alex Teixeira told Anfield HQ.
"There's only been one offer -- €32m -- and Shakhtar rejected it. I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help get me to Liverpool."
He added: "It was a great offer. It's frustrating. But the manager and club president decided against it, so now I'm just waiting, trying to be patient."
The 26-year-old recently said he is ready to leave Shakhtar and would like to play in the Premier League.
He has reiterated his desire to move to England and said he is hoping for the best regarding a transfer to Liverpool.
"I want to be at Liverpool, but that is up to the club president now. I can only hope. I don't know what else to say," he said.
"Every time I'm asked the question [where I want to move to], I always say the Premier League. For me, it's the best league in the world. I believe in myself and I feel that would be the best move for my career."
He added on Liverpool: "It is a huge club -- so many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt."
Later on Wednesday, the Daily Express reported Teixeira departed for his native Brazil from Shakhtar's warm-weather camp in Florida, but was unclear if it was due to a hamstring injury or a breakthrough in negotiations between the clubs.
