Arsenal unlikely to pursue Schalke's Julian Draxler - sources

Arsenal are unlikely to pursue a move for Schalke and Germany star Julian Draxler this summer, sources have told ESPN FC.

Reports in Germany said Arsenal were in pole position to sign Draxler after Juventus saw their overtures for the attacker rejected by Schalke.

Schalke rejected a reported £15.6 million offer from Juventus for the midfielder on Monday after weeks of talks between the two clubs.

Schalke value Draxler a lot higher than the Juventus bid, with the German club holding out for a fee in the region of £21.3m for the 21-year-old.

Arsenal have been chasing Draxler for the last 12 months with the Germany international claiming he turned down a move to the Emirates in January 2014.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that though the Gunners remain admirers of Draxler, they are not planning a move for the player this summer as they feel they are well-stocked with attacking midfielders.

Arsene Wenger admitted after Arsenal's Emirates Cup win over Lyon that he was not in desperate need to bring in new signings and would only enter the transfer market if a major talent became available, with his priority reportedly a proven striker rather than an attacking midfielder like Draxler.
