New York City FC ended their inaugural year on a high note, defeating the Puerto Rico national team final 2-1 at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon on Friday.
New York began the match with all three marquee stars, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa and Frank Lampard, on the pitch, and it didn't take long for the MLS side to break the deadlock.
RJ Allen sent an excellent cross into the Puerto Rican box, which was turned in by the hosts for an own goal.
Another own goal levelled the scores for Puerto Rico in the 69th minute, before substitute Kwadwo Poku bagged the winning goal for New York in the first minute of stoppage time.
