Robinho leaves China to return to Brazil with Atletico Mineiro

Former Real Madrid and Manchester City striker Robinho has left China Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande for a move back to Atletico Mineiro in Brazil.

The 32-year-old's six-month contract with the Chinese club came to an end and the mercurial forward agreed to join Atletico Mineiro on a two-year deal, where he will hope to win the Copa Libertadores, a trophy that he has never won before.

"Forward Robinho is the new signing of Atletico Mineiro," a club statement confirmed the signing on Thursday.

"His signing was announced in the early afternoon by president Daniel Nepomceno, on his Twitter account.

"Robinho will sign with the Galo for two seasons."

Despite strong interest from English Premier League leaders Leicester City, Robinho will now return to his homeland to play for the 43-time Campeonato Mineiro winners, having previously played for Brazilian domestic giants Santos.
