Samuel Eto'o: Serge Aurier needs to learn and move on from his mistakes

Former Barcelona star Samuel Eto'o has become the latest high-profile player to offer his support to suspended Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier.

Aurier, 23, was suspended indefinitely by PSG earlier this month for making disparaging remarks about manager Laurent Blanc and several of his teammates during a live Periscope session.

The Ivory Coast international apologised publically but missed last week's 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Champions League as a result of his behaviour.

On Monday, the right-back had a formal hearing with PSG's directors as he waits to find out what the ultimate sanction will be.

Last week Aurier's former international team mate Didier Drogba called on the French champions to give the player a second chance.

Eto'o, via his Instagram account, also offered his backing to Aurier, citing the PSG defender's twitter handle @thecrazychild93.

"Mistakes are human," the Cameroon striker wrote. "Beyond mistakes, the most important things are the lessons we learn from them. Isn't it said that a fault confessed is half redressed?

"Keep your head up young brother @thecrazychild93 and look behind only if it helps you move forward."

PSG are not expected to sack Aurier but he will be hopeful that they will not sell him in the summer either. On Monday, the Africa division of the players' union FIFPro also suggested that the Ligue 1 leaders should not judge Aurier too harshly.

"While preserving the image of the club and marking the authority of the directors and coach...the future of Serge Aurier, as a player and as a man, should not be compromised, just because he forgot for two or three minutes that he had obligations towards his coach and his team-mates," their statement read.

Blanc indicated at a news conference last Friday that initial tensions following Aurier's comments had cooled. After their 4-1 win on Saturday midfielder Blaise Matuidi said Aurier was "the friend of everyone in the dressing room" and maintained that the team "need" him.
