Paris Saint-Germain defender David Luiz has insisted there is no cause for concern ahead of the Champions League showdown with Manchester City despite Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Monaco.
A week after securing the Ligue 1 title in comprehensive fashion with a 9-0 victory at Troyes, PSG slumped to a first home league defeat since May 2014 as they lost to second-placed Monaco at the Parc des Princes on Sunday.
That prompted fears about a lack of motivation in the league hindering PSG's preparations for their Champions League quarterfinal tie against City next month, but Brazilian defender Luiz -- who gave away a penalty that was converted by Fabinho for Monaco's second goal -- rejected those concerns.
"The motivation comes from playing for a big club," Luiz, 28, told reporters after Sunday's match. "We can't play at a high level in every match. We still won the league eight games before the end of the season."
Laurent Blanc's side must now prepare for a crunch run of games in knockout competitions in April, though, and Luiz warned: "The best preparation for the Champions League, the Coupe de la Ligue and the Coupe de France is to win all our matches."
City's own preparations have not been helped by injuries to goalkeeper Joe Hart and Raheem Sterling during Sunday's 1-0 derby defeat at home to Manchester United. Their form has been inconsistent but former Chelsea defender Luiz expects a difficult test against Manuel Pellegrini's men.
"We are a great team and so are Manchester City. Is it a good draw? Absolutely, because we are still in the competition. The worst draw is when you are not in it," he said.
"Manchester City are a great team, they have a great stadium, there will be a great atmosphere. All players enjoy playing in matches like these. It won't be easy. You say they have a lot of injuries but they have so many players at their disposal."
