Bournemouth second-team keeper Adam Federici signs new contract

Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici has signed a new three-year contract with the Premier League minnows, the club said on Tuesday.

The Australian's contract extension would see him remain at the south-coast side until 2019.

Though the 31-year-old only made 12 appearances last season since joining the side at the tail end of the 2014-15 season from Reading, he says he hopes to improve and go on to challenge first-team regular Artur Boruc for more time on the pitch.

Speaking to the club's official website, Federici said: "I'm delighted to have signed a new contract. The manager [Eddie Howe] played a big part in me signing, the coaching staff and the way we play are factors too.

"I've never seen myself as a number two goalkeeper. I need to get rid of that tag and push on, I want to improve and play more next season... hopefully I can achieve that."

Under Howe's stewardship, Bournemouth survived their maiden season in the Premier League, finishing 16th on the table, just two places above the relegation zone.

However, with Everton having now announced Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as their new manager, Howe has been strongly linked to the job as the Dutchman's replacement at St Mary's.
