Real Madrid's Lucas Silva refutes retirement reports after failed loan

Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva has issued an official release stating he has no plans to retire from football.

The 23-year-old Brazilian was set to be loaned to Portuguese side Sporting before tests showed a heart issue which ultimately ended the deal.

Silva appeared to have issued notice of his retirement in an update to his Instagram biography, causing outlets in Europe to report the end of his playing career over the weekend.

However, according to Globo Esporte, a misinterpretation of the biblical passage he used -- which was written in Portuguese -- appears to be the cause for the confusion over his intentions.

On Monday, Silva released a statement via his Twitter and Instagram accounts making clear his intention to continue his career.

"On Friday, I had medical exams to sign with Sporting Club, a great club with an exceptional manager, I had a physical, in which they detected an irregular heartbeat," the statement began.

Silva's statement continued on to say he underwent more exams on Monday, revealing no issues, and that he was "very sure of the absolute normality of the additional tests."

And because of the reports of his retirement, he "decided to communicate, officially and categorically" that he was not retiring.

Silva was signed by Real Madrid from Cruzeiro for €14 million in the winter of 2015. He appeared just nine times for Los Blancos before being sent on a one-year loan to Marseille last season.
