Marko Marin leaves Chelsea for Olympiakos in permanent deal

Out-of-favour Chelsea winger Marko Marin has joined Olympiakos in a permanent deal.

Marin, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Werder Bremen in a transfer worth £7 million in July 2012, made just 16 appearances for the club in his debut season and had not featured in three years, instead spending time on loan at Sevilla, Fiorentina, Anderlecht and Tranzonspor.

In an interview with kicker in February, Marin admitted a return to Chelsea was unlikely but insisted that he remained determined to prove himself in European football, revealing that he had turned down a lucrative move to the Middle East last summer.

In a statement confirming the transfer, Chelsea said: "We thank Marko for his efforts as a Chelsea player and wish him well in his future career."

Marin, who was included in the Germany squad for the 2010 World Cup but missed out on Joachim Low's victorious 23-man selection in 2014, has signed a three-year deal with the Greek champions.
