Steaua Bucharest change name to FC FCSB following military row

Romanian side Steaua Bucharest have officially changed their name to FC FCSB following a dispute with the Romanian military.

The Romanian Football Federation approved the name change on Thursday, with the club having to make the alteration after a court ruling said that while they had been established as an army side in June 1947, they had lost their right to use a military identity.

The dispute between the two parties arose because the Romanian army wanted more money for the rights.

In 2011, defence ministry officials accused the club of having used the Steaua brand illegally since 2004.

Steaua in the past have had to be identified as "hosts" for matches during the dispute, while they have previously been made to play in yellow rather than their normal red-and-blue colours.
