Tottenham edging closer to deal to sign Galatasaray's Bruma - source

Tottenham have been locked in talks over the transfer of Galatasaray winger Bruma since January, a source close to the player has told ESPN FC, with a deal thought to be close to completion.

The Premier League side have been driving a hard bargain and negotiations over Bruma, 22, have been off and on for some time.

The source said Galatasaray have accepted that they may not be able to extend the Portugal under-21 international's contract, which will have just 12 months remaining at the end of the season, with talks having been unsuccessful.

The Turkish club want to include a release clause fee into any new deal, but are unwilling to accept Bruma's salary increase demands, the source said. He is set to make €1.2 million next season -- before bonuses -- but has been demanding more than double to sign a new contract.

Galatasaray are still pushing for a new agreement but could be forced into accepting an offer for their player this summer.

Galatasaray are under the watch of UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules after being suspended from European competition due to their economic situation. They will have to operate within their budget to avoid further punishment.

They will also likely be forced to sell high-value players over the summer if they fail to ensure a European spot. They are currently fourth, the last European spot in Turkey, in the Super Lig, two points ahead of fifth-placed Trabzonspor.

Bruma has largely been in great form this season and has been directly involved in a career-high 16 goals -- eight goals and eight assists -- but has struggled since Igor Tudor replaced Jan Olde Riekerink as Galatasaray coach in February. Bruma only has one goal in eight games since Tudor took charge.

Galatasaray signed Bruma for £9.35m from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 and spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad. Bruma has a total of 12 goals and 20 assists in 79 games for the Istanbul-based side.
