England U17s beat Portugal in first match since World Cup triumph

England Under-17s produced another impressive comeback on their return to action after their World Cup success.

Steve Cooper's Young Lions roared to World Cup glory in India last month, coming from 2-0 down in the final to beat Spain 5-2.

And it was a similar story at Chesterfield's Proact Stadium on Wednesday night as they beat Portugal 3-2.

Goals from Eduardo Ribeiro and Rodrigo Fernandes had the visitors in command at half-time.

However, Manchester City's Thomas Doyle pulled a goal back with a free kick early in the second half and the hosts' hopes were raised soon after when the visitors had Umaro Embalo sent off after two yellow cards.

Tomas Tavares' own goal, from a cross from Nottingham Forest's Arvin Appiah, levelled the scores, before Appiah crossed for Manchester City's Bobby Duncan to convert from close range and complete the turnaround.
