Claudio Marchisio leaves Juventus by mutual consent after 25 years

Claudio Marchisio has terminated his contract with Juventus by mutual consent, the Serie A club have announced.

The 32-year-old, who ranks 18th on the club's list of players with the most club appearances, with 389, brings to an end a spell of 25 years in a Bianconeri shirt.

His destination has not yet been revealed, although the midfielder has recently been linked with a move to France.

"Having had the opportunity to accompany him on this path, to discover a homegrown champion, day by day, was quite simply a privilege and an honour," read a statement on Juve's website. "And it will be a pleasure to keep following him, with whichever shirt he will wear in the future. For the black and white stripes, as we know, will always form an indelible part of him and his story.

"Thanks for everything, Claudio! We wish you the very best!"

Marchisio was restricted to just 15 Serie A appearances last season due to injury and competition for places.

He said in a post on Twitter after the announcement was made: "I cannot stop looking at this photo and these stripes on which I have written my life as a man and as a footballer. I love this shirt to the point that, despite everything, I believe that the good of the squad comes first. Always."

The arrival of Emre Can from Liverpool this summer would have seen his chances even more limited in the coming campaign, leading him to consider leaving his home city and the club whose colours he has worn since the age of seven.
