Liverpool defender Joe Gomez signs new long-term contract

Joe Gomez has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool, with a source telling ESPN FC the deal runs until the summer of 2024.

Liverpool announced the news on Monday morning as the 21-year-old becomes the latest player to commit his future to Anfield.

Gomez is currently sidelined for around six weeks with a fracture to his lower left leg, but has been rewarded for his impressive performances across the past two seasons.

"Signing this new deal means the world to me," Gomez told Liverpool's official website. "I've been at the club a few years now and have had the pleasure to play for Liverpool and experience what that means, so I am delighted to get the chance to extend my contract here.

"I love the club, I love playing and learning here, and I am happy for that to continue."

The defender has made 59 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Charlton Athletic in 2015.

He joins Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson in penning new deals on Merseyside in recent months.

"All the signs show where the club is heading, where our team is heading," Gomez added.

"We got so close last year in the European competition and in the league this year, we've shown such good character in the start to the season so far.

"[It's] our best start ever as club, so that shows if there is ever a time to have belief in the club and where we're going, it is now."

Gomez has also received six England caps, but missed out on the recent World Cup because of an ankle injury.
