ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas has received treatment for a hip injury. Coach Gary Kubiak said Monday he expects Thomas to practice Wednesday as the team prepares to face the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
Thomas briefly left in the first quarter of last Thursday night's season opener against the Carolina Panthers because of the hip, but he returned to play 44 of the Broncos' 58 snaps on offense overall. Thomas finished the game with four receptions for 48 yards.
The Broncos practiced Monday after players had the weekend off. Thomas received treatment both days this past weekend.
"We rested him [Monday], but my expectations are he'll be ready to go Wednesday," Kubiak said. "He was feeling good [Monday]."
Asked what Thomas had been told about the injury, given he was expected to get a second opinion, Kubiak said, "I don't really have a comment on that, I just know he was feeling really good."
Thomas suffered the injury when he was tackled by Panthers cornerback James Bradberry as he tried to keep his feet in bounds on a 6-yard reception along the Broncos' sideline with just over two minutes remaining in the first quarter.
"[He] went back in and played well, he was sore," Kubiak said. "He's had a couple days here, he's had some good treatment over the weekend. He could have practiced [Monday] if we would have wanted him to."
Kubiak said Broncos wide receiver Bennie Fowler, who suffered a fracture near his elbow in the preseason opener in Chicago, practiced fully Monday in a practice that largely entailed individual drills and a walk-through. Fowler, who was held out of the season opener, was the No. 3 wide receiver for most of the offseason and training camp.
