Defensive tackle Ricky Jean Francois signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Green Bay Packers, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Packers were looking for depth in the wake of Letroy Guion's four-game suspension to start the season. Guion was suspended for violating the NFL's policy against performance-enhancing drugs. After his suspension, the Packers restructured Guion's contract to push roster bonuses due this offseason into the regular season.
The Redskins released Jean Francois on March 15 in an expected move because he would have counted $4 million against the salary cap in 2017 and was going to be a backup at best. The Redskins saved $3 million in cap space with the release.
Jean Francois spent two years with Washington, starting six games in 2016 and recording 1.5 sacks. But the Redskins weren't pleased with their defensive line, allowing another starter, Chris Baker, to sign with Tampa Bay via free agency.
Jean Francois, 30, also spent two years with the Colts and four with the 49ers, who drafted him in the seventh round (No. 244 overall) of the 2009 draft.
In 109 games (36 starts), Jean Francois has 12 sacks, one forced fumble and 164 tackles.
