Titans lose Lloyd Cushenberry, Quandre Diggs for rest of season

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans will be without two starters for the remainder of the season, according to coach Brian Callahan.

Sunday's 20-17 overtime win over the New England Patriots was a costly one as starting center Lloyd Cushenberry III suffered a torn Achilles and starting safety Quandre Diggs suffered a foot injury.

Callahan said both players will likely be placed on injured reserve at some point this week.

Cushenberry suffered his injury while pass blocking in the third quarter. He walked off the field on his own and eventually into the locker room. The Titans (2-6) signed Cushenberry to a four-year, $50 million contract in March. The fifth-year veteran was named a team captain by his teammates before the season.

Veteran offensive lineman Corey Levin played 33 snaps in place of Cushenberry. Levin is currently on the practice squad and was elevated for Sunday's game.

Callahan said Levin would be the starter at center if right guard Dillon Radunz is unable to play this week against the Los Angeles Chargers. Radunz missed Sunday's game with a foot injury and was replaced by veteran lineman Daniel Brunskill. If Radunz plays, Brunskill will start at center.

Diggs was injured early in the second quarter while tackling Patriots receiver DeMario Douglas. Titans trainers helped him off the field before taking him to the locker room on a cart.

Veteran safety Mike Brown played 52 snaps filling in for Diggs. Brown had already gotten a lot of work in practice last week because a groin injury kept starting safety Amani Hooker out for two days.

"He was prepared, knew what to do, and went out and performed well," Callahan said Monday.

Brown will get the start at safety against the Chargers this week. The Titans also have Julius Wood as a backup.
