Gary Kubiak was back at the Houston Texans' facilities on Monday, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said.
"He did come in today and talked to the team," he said. "His comments were really overall looking at the ballgame from afar and how much he missed it. How much he missed being with the players and how much he missed being around the team. He was telling them that you guys don't realize how much you miss it until you're out of it, even one week."
The Texans have not announced he will return to coach the team this week against the Oakland Raiders, but he has been planning to do so, a team official told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Kubiak will gradually increase his hours and workload leading up to this week's game, according to a source.
Phillips served as the team's interim coach last week and in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
"He's going to be in a limited amount of time this week -- all that is up to the doctors as far as that is concerned," Phillips said. "We really don't know until they tell us actually what he's going to do, as far as the week is concerned, but he looked good. He looked fine. Again, he talked to the team about those things with conviction."
The Texans' defeat at Arizona was their seventh straight, dropping their record to 2-7 this season.
Kubiak made an appearance near the end of practice last Thursday, visiting the team for the first time since he suffered a transient ischemic attack two weeks ago during a loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Kubiak, 52, was released from the hospital last Tuesday and said in a statement that his doctors said he would make a full recovery.
The Houston Chronicle reported last week that, barring any setbacks, the Texans expected Kubiak to return for the Week 11 home game against the Raiders.
