The Edmonton Oilers have lost center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for six to eight weeks after the former No. 1 draft pick left a 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers because of a hand injury in the second period Monday.
Nugent-Hopkins, drafted first overall by Edmonton in 2011, was apparently injured while blocking a shot.
The Oilers offered a more specific timeline Tuesday.
Nugent-Hopkins has eight goals and 21 assists in 45 games this season for the Oilers, who sit last in the Western Conference standings at 19-23-5 with 43 points.
