The New York Rangers say defenseman Dan Girardi won't play Thursday night against the Islanders due to an upper-body injury.
The team says Girardi is day-to-day.
Girardi was injured in Tuesday's game when he was hit from behind into the boards by Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brian Boyle.
Girardi was down on the ice for several minutes before he got back up and was helped off the ice. Boyle was assessed a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct penalty.
Girardi has a plus/minus of plus-18, second only to fellow defenseman Ryan McDonagh's plus-26.
McDonagh suffered an upper-body injury Monday after he blocked a shot against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The team announced earlier that he would miss the remainder of the regular season.
The status of both players for the playoffs is unknown.
