England's Tom Curry will miss the chance to stake a claim for the Six Nations after injury ruled him out of the autumn internationals.

The Sale openside was due to be on the bench for Saturday's clash with Argentina, but will now miss all of England's pre-Six Nations appointments because of a dislocated wrist.

A Rugby Football Union statement on Thursday said: "Following a scan this afternoon it has been confirmed that Tom Curry dislocated a small bone in his left wrist today.

"He underwent a minor operation this evening and is likely to be out for up to 12 weeks."

Exeter's Sam Simmonds takes Curry's place on the bench.

Coach Eddie Jones had thought long and hard about whether or not to start Curry ahead of Sam Underhill, but went with the latter.

''We've had a good battle between Underhill and Curry. They're genuine opensides. We've got Simmonds coming through,'' Jones said.

''We've got some good back rowers coming through. It's a new generation. They're athletically good. They've got a good attitude. It's very exciting."
