Rugby League star Valentine Holmes is reportedly set to make his return to the NRL next season, after his unsuccessful bid to play in the NFL with the New York Jets.
According to News Corp reports, Holmes is set to sign with the North Queensland Cowboys on a deal worth approximately $1 million a season.
The Jets and Holmes are yet to make a statement, but Holmes' management told Fox Sports the reports were inaccurate, saying "no decision to quit the NFL has been made".
Holmes left the Sharks last November and was soon signed by the Jets as part of the NFL's international player pathway program.
The 24-year-old played in three of the Jets' four preseason games as a running back and a return specialist. He averaged just 0.8 yards per rushing attempt, but secured eight passes for 85 yards. The stats weren't good enough for the Jets though, with the side placing him on the practice squad in the final round of roster cuts.
