Scotland's Hollie Davidson to referee her first Challenge Cup rugby match

Rugby

Scotland's Hollie Davidson is set to take charge of her first ever men's professional match when she officiates Newcastle Falcons vs. Castre in the Challenge Cup on Jan. 16.

The former Under-20 international was appointed alongside England's Sara Cox.

Davidson became Scotland's first female referee in 2017 and has assisted on a number of European and PRO14 games.

"I couldn't quite believe it when I got the phone call," Davidson told Scottish Rugby in a statement.

"I am hugely excited by the appointment, and I'm looking forward to being tested at the next level of rugby.

"I'm sure I'll have butterflies in my stomach, but I'm just looking to go out there and do the basics well."

Davidson's last refereeing fixture was the game between England and France in Twickenham in November which the Red Roses won 25-23.

"It was great to be involved in the England vs. France women's fixture back in November. To referee a game of that standard mid-pandemic was a privilege," she added.

"I feel very fortunate to have been involved in both international and professional club fixtures during these uncertain times as it has kept my brain ticking over and I feel it has put me in a strong position building up to this career milestone."

Joy Neville became the first woman to officiate in the Challenge Cup in December 2017 when she presided over Bordeaux Begles beating Enisey 36-27.
