UConn assistant Shea Ralph returns home following family member's positive test, leaving Huskies with 2 coaches

UConn women's basketball assistant coach Shea Ralph will return home from San Antonio out of an abundance of caution after a member of her family tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, the team announced.

With head coach Geno Auriemma already self-isolating at home because of a positive COVID-19 test on Sunday, Ralph's departure leaves the Huskies with just two coaches right now: associate head coach Chris Dailey, who is filling in as head coach in Auriemma's absence, and assistant Jamelle Elliott.

Ralph has been tested daily since March 9, including twice since the team arrived in San Antonio on Tuesday for the NCAA women's basketball tournament. All her tests have been negative.

A UConn spokesperson told ESPN it's uncertain when Ralph may be able to return to the team.

Auriemma, 66, said in a video call Monday that he got the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine a month ago, and the second dose last Wednesday. He is not experiencing any symptoms, but because of required quarantining, he cannot rejoin the team until March 24.

If the Huskies win their first-round game against High Point on March 21 (ESPN, 8 p.m. ET), they would play in the second round on March 23.

Dailey has served as head coach in past situations in which Auriemma wasn't able to coach due to illness and surgery. She is 10-0 in those games. Dailey has been with Auriemma at UConn since they came to the program in 1985.
