The Seattle Seahawks have to trim their roster to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET Saturday. Here's one final projection:

QUARTERBACK (2): Russell Wilson, Trevone Boykin

Pete Carroll did not sugarcoat his disappointment in Boykin's performance against the Oakland Raiders. "He had some problems tonight," Carroll said.

The feeling here is that the Seahawks will actively pursue options for an upgrade to back up Wilson this weekend. Boykin just needs more work at this point. Even though Wilson has never missed a game or practice, there's too much riding on the season to leave the backup spot unsettled going into Week 1.

RUNNING BACK (5): Thomas Rawls, Christine Michael, C.J. Prosise, Alex Collins, Will Tukuafu

I think Troymaine Pope (eight carries, 52 yards vs. the Raiders) has gotten the coaches' attention. I just don't know that there's a spot for him. He seems like a good possibility for the practice squad.

WIDE RECEIVER (5): Doug Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse, Tyler Lockett, Paul Richardson, Tanner McEvoy

This is another area where I think the Seahawks very well could add a player from another roster. McEvoy has versatility, having played wide receiver, safety and tight end. But he's banged up. Don't be surprised if the Seahawks look to add a fifth WR with a special teams background.

TIGHT END (4): Jimmy Graham, Luke Willson, Nick Vannett, Brandon Williams.

No surprises here. With the status of Graham (ruptured patellar tendon) and Vannett (ankle) in question for Week 1, the Seahawks need to keep four.

OFFENSIVE LINE (9): Bradley Sowell, Mark Glowinski, Justin Britt, Germain Ifedi, Garry Gilliam, J'Marcus Webb, Joey Hunt, Jahri Evans, Rees Odhiambo

There are a couple of difficult questions here. One, will the Seahawks keep Evans? He has experience and provides some insurance at right guard, but he doesn't have positional versatility and is 33-years-old.

One of the last cuts here in this projection was George Fant. The athletic left tackle prospect needs work, but if the Seahawks fall in love with his upside, they could keep him on the 53-man roster.

DEFENSIVE LINE (9): Michael Bennett, Ahtyba Rubin, Jarran Reed, Cliff Avril, Frank Clark, Tony McDaniel, Jordan Hill, Quinton Jefferson, Brandin Bryant

McDaniel has been a pleasant surprise, and Jefferson has shown consistent improvement. Hill's hamstring injury could open up a spot for Bryant.

LINEBACKER (7): Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright, Mike Morgan, Cassius Marsh, Brock Coyle, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Eric Pinkins

There could be a surprise here like Kache Palacio. Linebacker is another area where the Seahawks could add a player who's currently on another team.

CORNERBACK (5): Richard Sherman, DeShawn Shead, Jeremy Lane, Tharold Simon, Tye Smith

Smith is on the bubble. The Seahawks could opt to go with veteran Marcus Burley over him.

SAFETY (4): Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Kelcie McCray, Tyvis Powell

The Seahawks could go with a fifth safety for special-teams purposes. Steven Terrell could fill that role. Or Keenan Lambert, who had four special-teams tackles against the Raiders.

SPECIALISTS (3): Steven Hauschka, Jon Ryan, Nolan Frese
