Ten things that stood out on Day 2 of Bucs minicamp

Here are 10 things that stood out from Day 2 of Tampa Bay Buccaneers minicamp ...

1. Quarterback Jameis Winston connected with tight end Cameron Brate on a 30-yard pass down the middle of the field that was one of the biggest plays of the day, getting tons of cheers from fans in attendance.

2. With Vincent Jackson held out for the second straight day, and Louis Murphy still out, several younger receivers are getting looks. Russell Shepard is catching virtually everything thrown his way. He caught a pass in stride, right across his belly, during 7-on-7s from Winston and made a leaping touchdown catch in traffic that drew plenty of "ooh"s and "ahh"s.

3. Former UCF and Jaguars running back Storm Johnson has a pretty nice set of hands. He went deep on a pass from Mike Glennon working against middle linebacker Luke Rhodes, catching it with outstretched arms along the far sideline for a touchdown. It was slightly overthrown but Johnson hustled to make the play. (For what it's worth, Rhodes has been impressive, consistently working with the second-team defense.)

4. Kenny Bell slipped between two defenders to grab a touchdown from Ryan Griffin in the back of the end zone. He actually caught touchdowns on back-to-back plays towards the end of practice. “Kenny definitely had a good day today and a couple of really nice throws there in the red zone from Griff," coach Dirk Koetter said after practice. "Kenny has a little extra gear that some other guys don’t have and today that showed up.”

5. Kwon Alexander had a nice interception off Winston at the goal line that was intended for Luke Stocker.

6. Safety Keith Tandy intercepted a Mike Glennon pass that was deflected by rookie cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III during 7-on-7s. Hargreaves spent some time lining up on the outside with the second-team defense, but he's also lining up in nickel.

7. Cornerback Alterraun Verner made a diving interception in 11-on-11s.

8. Brandon Myers dashed down the middle of the field and hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Griffin. Griffin also hit Kenny Bell, who slipped by Johnthan Banks to score in the back of the end zone.

9. Hargreaves closed out practice with a leaping interception off Glennon on a pass intended for Donteea Dye. Hargreaves plucked the ball right from Dye's hands in mid air in the corner of the end zone.

10. Veteran defensive end Robert Ayers said he feels William Gholston may be having one of the best offseasons of any Bucs defensive lineman. Koetter echoed that praise. "To win football games in the NFL you have to have grind-it guys, and I’ve been telling our defensive coaches all along, from my own experience with Will last year, watching it is, Will is one of those grinders. He’s an in the trenches, every down, he’s going to give you what he has guy."
