The Nike Opening regionals made a stop in Southern California. Here are some of the top performances from Sunday's event:
Jones on the rise
Long Beach (Calif.) Poly has produced two of the top perimeter prospects in the nation the last two classes in Juju Smith (2014) and Iman Marshall (2015) and, in the 2016 class, Jack Jones is already making a name for himself. He has a slight build with adequate height, but good length and wiry strength coupled with a confident and extremely competitive demeanor. Jones worked at DB at the camp, but could play wide receiver at the next level. He earned MVP honors and an invitation to The Opening finals. During the drills, he displayed quick feet and fluid hip and further demonstrated the good instincts and savvy that has shown up on tape. In addition to good physical ability, Jones' competitive approach really stood out. He took a bunch of reps and more importantly was consistently quick to jump in and test himself against the top receivers in attendance. He might lack great size, but this is a tough, athletic and competitive football player who should continue to see his stock rise.
