Here were all the key updates from December 8, Friday:

Mumbai City thrash Bengaluru FC

It wasn't a pretty scenario for those who braved the Bengaluru traffic to reach the Kanteerava today, as Mumbai City laid waste to Bengaluru FC with a clinical performance. Des Buckingham's departure seemed to have had no adverse effect on the defending league shield champions as Abdenasser El Khayati and Akash Mishra gave the visitors a two-goal lead going into the break.

Simon Grayson's side continued their erratic form in defence with the concession of two penalties in the second half, as Jorge Pereyra Diaz and Lallianzuala Chhangte also got on the scoresheet to make it a convincing 4-0 win. The win propels Mumbai up to fourth in the table (although they are unbeaten and have three games in hand against Kerala Blasters in second), while BFC languish in ninth, with just seven points from nine games.

Ahmedabad Defenders exit the FIVB Club World Championships

They might have failed to take a set of the favourites Sir Sicoma Perugia, but the Ahmedabad Defenders won plenty of hearts with their performance, going down 18-25, 19-25, 11-25 in their group stage encounter. It might even open doors for foreign clubs to sign Indian players, who did their reputation no harm.

Perugia, meanwhile, move on to the semifinals, where they face Halkbank Spor Kulubu (who shocked Sada Cruzeiro 3-0), while Suntory Sunbirds face Itambe Minas in the other semifinal.

Pro Kabaddi League continues apace

The PKL moved to it's Bengaluru leg as the Kanteerava indoor stadium opened its doors to the caravan format, but it was a disappointing night for the locals. Bengaluru Bulls went down 31-39 to Dabang Delhi, and all of Bharat's efforts went in vain as the Naveen Express showed up to steal the show in a contest where Dabang Delhi always kept their opponents at arm's length with a lead throughout.

Mohit Goyat racked up the points for Puneri Paltan in the other game, as they kept a sizeable lead over U Mumba for much of the contest to win 43-32.

The Indian Women's League kicked off

With a home-and-away format this year among seven teams, defending champions Gokulam Kerala hosted Sethu FC in the opener today. However, despite the wealth of attacking talent on display, it turned out to be a goalless draw to start of proceedings in the 2023-24 season of the IWL.

To keep up with everything IWL, here's our handy guide to the fixtures, schedule and all of our coverage.
