Fernando Alonso was having 'a little bit of fun' when he spun

Fernando Alonso says he was having fun when he spun on his in-lap during second practice for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Alonso spun on the exit of turn 12, completing an elegant 360 degree pirouette before continuing on his way. He said the lack of grip throughout the session meant there was potential to slide the car out of corners once the serious work of the run was done.

"It was not on purpose, obviously," he said. "It was one of the in-laps and you try to push a little more to have a little bit of fun. The cars are not too quick this year and also the track is a bit slower today. I think Mercedes did 1:23s in winter testing and we are running in 1:26s and 1:27s, so definitely today there was not much grip for anybody and we try to have some fun on the in-laps."

When he was not having fun, Alonso was running tests on McLaren's updates.

"We need to check all the tests we did today," he added, "and tomorrow put everything together and hopefully increase the performance a little bit.
