Toto Wolff says no-one at Mercedes is being blamed for the decision to pit Lewis Hamilton at the Monaco Grand Prix, a call which ultimately cost the world champion victory.
In the wake of the Monaco Grand Prix, which saw Nico Rosberg win after a late pit stop for Mercedes team-mate Hamilton under the safety car relegated him from first to third. Mercedes put the error down to getting the math wrong and this week hosted a Twitter Q and A with team boss Toto Wolff to address fan questions directly.
One fan asked if anyone had been held accountable for Sunday's call, to which Wolff replied: "Absolutely not. We're a world championship team and we are not playing a blame game based on a single race."
In other responses to questions, Wolff reiterated the reasons for the mistake and stressed the fact the team shared its fans' frustrations at how the Monaco race unfolded.
"We believed we could make a free stop to cover risk of cars behind on Super Soft tyres, but unfortunately our data was wrong. You need the right balance between data and gut feeling. Our tools told us we had the gap but they were wrong.
"It's true, there's almost no overtaking at Monaco. But Ricciardo took supersofts and overtook Kimi.
"Just to make one thing clear, we're right in the middle of this and just as frustrated about our mistake as many of you ... This is our life, we eat, sleep, breathe F1."
When questioned how Mercedes can avoid a repeat in future, he replied: "Improve software, better communication and a spice more common sense."
