Mercedes taking Ferrari threat 'very seriously' - Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes is taking the threat from Ferrari "very seriously" at the Austrian Grand Prix after Sebastian Vettel outpaced both Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in second practice.

Vettel was 0.011s quicker than Rosberg in FP2, while mistakes meant Hamilton failed to improve on the the faster of the two tyre compounds. Hamilton said Mercedes is feeling the pressure from its closest rivals this season and the team was wary of the threat this weekend.

"We always take it very seriously," he said, "but the team is probably more focused on it than I am."

"We improved the car for sure through FP1 and FP2, it was generally just with the tyres - there was not a huge amount of grip."

Hamilton said it would be interesting to see how the cars stack up in the race after feeling confident with his long run on super-soft tyres.

"It was good and relatively consistent. The team asked me to achieve a time and I was confident with what I had. It will be interesting to know what the fuel loads were for everyone else on those laps."
