Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene has called for an end to speculation about Kimi Raikkonen's future because he is concerned it is distracting his driver.
Raikkonen has an option to remain at Ferrari next year, but Arrivabene has made clear that results need to improve for his deal to be extended into 2016. After scoring just 24 points in the last four rounds, Raikkonen has slipped to fifth in the drivers' championship behind Valtteri Bottas and Arrivabene believes the negative news stories could be affecting his driver's form.
"Imagine being Kimi for one second, everyone is talking about him since Bahrain and then you have to jump in the car and drive at 300km/h," he said. "Is he in a good mood? No. I want Kimi to stay calm and do his job.
"I want to get rid of all of this because we have two drivers and Kimi knows what he has to do, he knows that his future is in his hands and that's it," he said. "At the right time we will communicate our decision.
"As I have always said, the future of Kimi is in the hands of Kimi. I don't want to talk anymore about Kimi because we have 10 races to go and at the right time we will communicate to Kimi what we are going to do."
Raikkonen finished eighth at the British Grand Prix after switching to intermediate tyres before the track was fully wet.
"The strategy guys do a wonderful job, but when it rains, it's the driver who has the final call to the pits," Arrivabene explained. "In the case of Kimi, whose strategy was identical to Seb's, he thought it better to come in. If it had rained harder, maybe he could have won the race. But we must be honest and acknowledge that Williams was stronger than us."
