Toro Rosso forgives Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz for rookie errors in 2015

Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost says Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz have been forgiven for the mistakes they have made in the first half of the season.

Verstappen has retired from the Monaco Grand Prix when he crashed trying to overtake Romain Grosjean and from the British Grand Prix when he spun off following a safety car restart. Sainz has arguably been more consistent, but has scored fewer points and dropped down the order when he spun at the Chinese Grand Prix.

However, Tost does not hold the mistakes this year against either of his drivers.

"I have to say I am more than satisfied," he told the official F1 website. "Both have proven that they deserve to be in F1. Mistakes and spins are part of the education process, so that is all forgiven. If you want to go to the limit you can only find it when you spin or crash."

Tost believes both Verstappen and Sainz are capable of winning races in the future, but would not reveal who he thinks will go further in the world of F1.

"The learning process is quite important and if these two drivers continue with the gradient of their learning curve then both of them - if the environment is correct - can win races. Both are highly skilled and committed. The rest I will keep to myself."
