Who is the youngest driver to win a Grand Prix? How long does Max Verstappen have to break the record? asked James Henderson

Max Verstappen, who turned 18 at the end of September, has about three years to break the record, which is currently held by Sebastian Vettel. He was 21 years and 70 days old when he won the Italian GP in 2008 -- the only win to date for Toro Rosso, Verstappen's current team.

Vettel broke the record previously held by Fernando Alonso, who was 22 years and 26 days old when he stepped on top of the podium for the first time, in Hungary in 2003, driving a Renault. Second was the young Kimi Raikkonen.

The American Troy Ruttman, 22, won the Indianapolis 500 in 1952, while it counted towards the world championship. Bruce McLaren, at the United States Grand Prix in 1959, and Lewis Hamilton, in Canada in 2007, were also 22 when they first took the chequered flag.

Raikkonen, Robert Kubica, Jacky Ickx, Michael Schumacher and Emerson Fittipaldi were all 23 when they won a Grand Prix for the first time.
