Kimi Raikkonen said a mistake on his final qualifying run at the Brazilian Grand Prix resulted in a substandard lap time, but he is still due to start from fourth on the grid behind team-mate Sebastian Vettel due to a penalty for Valtteri Bottas.

Raikkonen was 0.340s off hise Vettel in qualifying after struggling with his car's set-up throughout Friday practice. He said the car was behaving better on Saturday, but a mistake still resulted in a time that was slower than he had hoped.

"On my last lap I got sideways in Turn 11 and that cost me time," he said. "That also affected the last corner, but these things happen. We'll still start 4th so it doesn't change anything."

Raikkonen said the improved balance of the car bodes well for Sunday's race.

"We'll try to make a good start and go from there," he said. "The car has been behaving well today and hopefully it will be the same tomorrow. I think the weather may be slightly different, so that may also have some impact."

Both Ferraris were over half a second off Nico Rosberg's pole position time, a significant advantage on such a short circuit, but Raikkonen is still confident next year will be different.

"Every circuit is different, in some circuits the gap has been smaller, in others it's bigger. I don't know if they've done something, I haven't compared the data. It is what it is today and we'll try to fight as hard as we can in these last two races. Next year it's a different story."
