Daniil Kvyat thinks Red Bull is on the right path after a "positive day" behind the wheel of the RB12.
After taking over from Daniel Ricciardo, Kvyat completed 74 laps at Barcelona on Wednesday and finished ninth, though times are of little significance at this point in testing. The Red Bull driver was happy with the feeling of the car and expects more to come on Thursday.
"It was good," Kvyat said. "All in all what we can see is that we are moving in the right direction. We need more mileage to develop what we have at the moment, but tomorrow will be better. Always the first day in the car there are a few systems checks and stuff like that, but generally it was a positive day, more positives. Tomorrow we aim to do higher mileage to start developing, but the baseline is good, it is solid, so I am quite happy."
Kvyat says he would have liked to do more laps but admits testing is always bound to throw up little problems from time to time.
"Small minor issues there and there, but this happens in testing. We have a strong baseline but we ideally would like to have more mileage. This is the aim for tomorrow and this will help me and team to develop the package. So we need to start making more laps."
Asked if there has been progress on the engine, said: "Yes, there were steps forwards in all the directions we are moving on the right direction. Engine side, chassis side, operational side and so on, so it was quite good in that respect."
