Lewis Hamilton: Driver of the Day a 'pointless exercise'

Lewis Hamilton has continued to criticise the latest raft of Formula One rule changes that were released this week.

On Wednesday Hamilton made his thoughts clear on the 2017 regulation changes, arguing they target the wrong aspects of car design. Speaking on Thursday he also made clear that he is not a fan of a public vote for Driver of the Day, which is due to be introduced this year.

"It's probably good for the youngsters that are coming in, but Driver of the Day doesn't sound good to me. It seems like a pointless exercise. I don't really have positive things to say about these rules."

He added: "I just think these ideas they are coming up with are no good,"

Asked if he wanted to be consulted more on new regulations, the world champion said: "Not really. I don't know what the other drivers want but I don't care to be consulted about it. I just don't think they are particularly special or will add to the spectacle for the fans and that's what we've got to do.

"On race weekends, for example, we are limited on tyres and engines so we do less running. When these people turn up and spend so much money to watch a test day they are sat there watching nothing for a period of time because we have no tyres. There are loads of things I just feel it's to make headlines and all it does is cause everyone to talk about it, but it's not going to make much difference."

Hamilton is also not convinced the changes to qualifying will have the desired effect of mixing up the grid.

"I don't really feel like it's going to change much, to be honest. I hope it's a surprise for us all and I hope it does. Generally the format is the same, it just puts even more focus on getting your laps in and by making sure everyone is out all the time, I guess it will be good for spectators."
