Max Verstappen on future: 'You have to be loyal'

Max Verstappen is refusing to be drawn on questions about his future but has admitted he owes the Red Bull programme loyalty for giving him his F1 opportunity.

Eighteen-year-old Verstappen had a superb rookie campaign for Toro Rosso last year and enters 2016 as one of the hottest commodities on the grid. There are several big-name drivers out of a contract at the end of the year -- including Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen -- leading to expectations of a busy driver market.

Though he has been linked with a Ferrari drive a step up to Red Bull seems the most logical career path. Verstappen admits he owes Red Bull for giving him the chance in F1.

"I'm very happy with Red Bull so I don't see any reason to change that," Verstappen said. "You also have to be loyal, they gave me the chance to start in Formula One. It was my dream and I'm very happy to be here."

Pressed on the Ferrari link, Verstappen said: "Like I said, I'm very happy at Red Bull and then we'll see what happens in the future."

His performances last year included two fourth-place finishes and one of the overtakes of the season on Sergio Perez at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Asked if he felt more pressure going into his second year with heightened expectations, he replied: "Never. Why not? Because you cannot do more than your best, so I will do my best and that's it."

"[The second year] is bit more relaxed I would say. You experience the first season and from there on with the experience you have you just know what's coming a bit more. Of course it's still a new season, new cars, some new drivers around, but you know how to build up a racing weekend much more than when I was here last year. So that helps a lot."
