The Nurburgring still hopes to be on the Formula One calendar next year as the host of the German Grand Prix despite ongoing uncertainty about the future of the event.
The German Grand Prix was cancelled last year after a contractual dispute between the Nurburgring and Formula One Management (FOM). The circuit had alternated the hosting of the event with Hockenheim since 2008.
The race is back on the 2016 calendar, with Hockenheim set to host the event on July 31, but the uncertainty around the Nurburgring's ability to host the event means it remains a doubt beyond this season. However circuit chiefs have confirmed talks with Bernie Ecclestone are ongoing.
"I would like to answer that the Nürburgring is still in discussion for the 2017 Formula One Grand Prix in Germany," a circuit spokesperson told GPUpdate. "We are still confident to host this grand prix.
"If there is a chance [to return to the Formula One calendar] we would like to take it, but in the end it will be a question of the conditions and the financial risk."
The Nurburgring last hosted a Formula One race in 2013, when Sebastian Vettel beat Lotus pair Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean to the top step of the podium.
