Haas, Renault go extreme with Canada tyres

JEWEL SAMAD / Staff

Pirelli has released the tyre allocations for the Canadian Grand Prix, with Haas and Renault both electing to avoid one compound completely.

Three tyres are now available across a race weekend, with the soft, super-soft and ultra-soft being taken for a second straight race after Monaco. Teams are able to select 13 sets, with one of each compound set aside by Pirelli for use at various stages during the weekend.

Haas and Renault's selections stand out, with both teams avoiding the super-soft tyre completely. While Renault has gone for a more even spread between the other two tyres for its drivers, (five soft, eight ultra-soft), Haas has elected for ten of the ultra-soft tyre and just three soft tyres.

Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have all gone for very similar allocations. The only teammates to have gone for different strategies are Williams pair Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas, with the latter having one more set of super-softs and one fewer of softs.
