MONTREAL, Canada -- Kimi Raikkonen put his lack of performance in qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix down to his approach to Montreal's Turn 10 hairpin.
Raikkonen qualified sixth on Saturday after setting a time over half a second slower than team-mate Sebastian Vettel. Asked where he felt he was losing time, Raikkonen said he was struggling in the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's slowest corner.
"We struggled a bit in Turn 10 the whole qualifying and we lost a lot of time there, a lot of time from locking," Raikkonen said. "But there were good places and then certain places that we struggled the whole qualifying and gave a lot of lap time. So, not ideal, but that is how it was today.
"We struggled to make the front turn well and in the entry we took the hit for that and in the exit. That was probably the biggest issue we had. The rest wasn't too bad."
Raikkonen had been struggling with tyre warm-up during Friday practice, but said Saturday's practice and qualifying represented a step forward.
"I don't know, it has been better. Obviously yesterday we struggled with many things, but today the car was a lot better. Qualifying with the warm-up, I didn't think it was so much warmer, maybe it is not ideal, but I think everybody was doing prep laps, but this is where we end up and this is it. Tomorrow I am sure it will be better in the race. It is obviously not easy, but it is where we start."
